GA Festival of Geology 2022

The GA Festival of Geology is being celebrated this year in combination with International Geodiversity Day (October 6th 2022).

We are encouraging Local and Affiliated Groups to host events from October 1st to 9th 2022, throughout the week of International Geodiversity Day, and the weekend following. Events could be virtual contributions or could involve hosting walks and talks in your area, coming together with other groups to share your geological experiences, or perhaps doing some conservation work on your local site. We will be advertising events via the GA website and www.festivalofgeology.org.uk/ to submit your group’s events please contact the GA Office.

Unfortunately the physical gathering, which normally occurs in November, will not take place during 2022 due to insufficient volunteers and the continuing uncertainties associated with the pandemic. We are, however, planning to return to a physical gathering for Festival of Geology in 2023. If you would like to be part of the organising committee for 2023, please contact us.

International Geodiversity Day will enable coordinated activities to take place worldwide, highlighting the importance of geodiversity, bringing together people, communities, organisations, and countries across the world. Events can be found at www.geodiversityday.org/find-an-event

We would like to remind groups about the ‘GA Regional Meetings Grant’. These are designed to encourage Local and Affiliated Groups to work together on joint events.  Qualifying groups can receive a grant of up to £350. Priority goes to multi-group "regional" or "sub-regional" events, particularly those that can include the general public. Details can be found at https://geologistsassociation.org.uk/other-awards/

Best Regards
